El cachalote- Málaga

Queríamos probar el espeto de sardinas y el pescado al fuego, y la verdad es que, para eso, este sitio es una elección muy acertada. Está situado en primera línea de mar, justo en la playa de la Malagueta, con unas vistas estupendas y un ambiente muy agradable. El servicio fue atento y rápido, algo que se agradece en una zona tan concurrida. Eso sí, a partir de las 13:00 h no aceptan reservas, por lo que hay que hacer cola si se llega tarde, especialmente los fines de semana. Ahora bien, conviene saber a lo que se va: si te centras en el espeto o en el pescadito al fuego, saldrás satisfecho. El pescado es fresco y está bien hecho, con ese sabor inconfundible del fuego de leña que tanto se busca en Málaga. Sin embargo, más allá de eso, la carta pierde calidad. Platos como la paella no merecen la pena, y los postres resultan más discretos: una selección de helados, tartas frías y flanes de elaboración industrial, sin opciones caseras. En resumen, un lugar ideal para disfrutar de una comida sencilla junto al mar, con buenos espetos, un ambiente local y vistas inmejorables, pero sin grandes pretensiones gastronómicas.

We wanted to try the sardine skewers and the fish grilled over the fire, and for that, this place turned out to be an excellent choice. It’s located right on the seafront, on Malagueta Beach, offering great views and a very pleasant atmosphere. The service was attentive and quick, which is always appreciated in such a busy area. Do note, however, that after 1:00 p.m. they don’t take reservations, so you’ll likely have to wait in line if you arrive late, especially on weekends. That said, it’s important to know what to come for: if you stick to the sardine skewers or grilled fish, you’ll be happy. The fish is fresh and well prepared, with that unmistakable wood-fire flavor so typical of Málaga. Beyond that, though, the menu loses some appeal. Dishes like the paella aren’t really worth it, and the desserts are rather simple — mostly ice creams, chilled cakes, and flans of industrial production, without any homemade options. All in all, it’s a great spot to enjoy a simple meal by the sea, with excellent sardine skewers, a local atmosphere, and unbeatable views — just don’t expect fine dining or culinary surprises.
