Casa Santamaría es una de esas casas de comidas tradicionales que merece la pena conocer si estás por la zona de Doneztebe-Santesteban. El restaurante cuenta con varias zonas distribuidas entre la planta baja y el primer piso, además de una agradable zona de jardín. La propuesta es muy casera y tradicional, con un menú con una cantidad enorme de platos para elegir, tanto de primeros como de segundos, con opciones de cuchara, pescados, carnes y diferentes elaboraciones de la cocina de toda la vida. Y, sobre todo, con unas cantidades realmente abundantes: aquí es difícil quedarse con hambre. Si no consigues terminar los platos, te preparan lo que sobra para llevar, algo especialmente práctico teniendo en cuenta las generosas raciones. El trato fue encantador, muy cercano y amable durante toda la comida, algo que contribuye mucho a esa sensación de estar en una auténtica casa de comidas. Entre semana no se puede reservar, por lo que es habitual encontrar cola, especialmente en las horas de mayor afluencia. Nosotros fuimos bastante tarde y apenas tuvimos que esperar, aunque por lo que hemos podido ver, la cola suele ser importante. Eso sí, parece avanzar con bastante rapidez.

Casa Santamaría is one of those traditional family-run restaurants that is well worth visiting if you are in the Doneztebe-Santesteban area. The restaurant has several dining areas spread across the ground and first floors, as well as a pleasant garden area. The food is very homemade and traditional, with a menu offering an enormous number of dishes to choose from, both starters and main courses, including hearty spoon dishes, fish, meat and different preparations of traditional local cuisine. And, above all, the portions are really generous: it is difficult to leave here hungry. If you cannot finish your dishes, they will pack the leftovers for you to take home, which is especially practical given the generous portions. The service was charming, very friendly and welcoming throughout the meal, contributing greatly to the feeling of being in a traditional family-style restaurant. Reservations are not available during the week, so there is usually a queue, especially during the busiest hours. We went quite late and barely had to wait, although from what we have seen, the queues can often be quite long. That said, they seem to move fairly quickly. Overall, a highly recommended place if you are looking for homemade food, generous portions and a traditional atmosphere, without any great pretensions but with a proposal that delivers exactly what it promises.
